第五トラディショナルno.8 The Two From The Minstrell Show

Emmett Miller (February 2, 1900–March 29, 1962) was an American minstrel show performer and recording artist known for his falsetto, yodel-like voice.

Little-remembered today, Miller was a major influence on many country music singers, including

Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Milton Brown, Tommy Duncan, and Merle Haggard.

His music bridges a gap between old-time Southern music, minstrelsy, jazz, and western swing……

Although his vocal delivery was influential on several major country singers, Emmett Miller was basically a vaudeville singer,

with far stronger aural links to Al Jolson than Merle Haggard.

A white man performing in blackface, Miller was an exponent of the minstrel school of performance, touring widely with minstrel shows for several decades.

The most influential aspect of his recordings were his yodeling trill, and there can be no doubt that it heavily influenced country singers such as Jimmie Rodgers,

Lefty Frizzell, and Hank Williams (who learned "Lovesick Blues" from a Miller record).

Bob Wills asked his early lead singer to copy Miller’s style

Emmett Miller was a minstrel performer who had the good fortune to have top-notch Jazz musicians assigned to his Okeh sessions in the late 1920s.

His records made between June of 1928 and September of 1929 where labeled Emmett Miller accompanied by his Georgia Crackers and are of Jazz interest only for the back-up musicians that accompany Miller on these sessions….

Al Jolson

Al Jolson (May 26, 1886 – October 23, 1950) was an American singer, comedian and actor.

In his heyday, he was dubbed "The World’s Greatest Entertainer".

His performing style was brash and extroverted, and he popularized a large number of songs that benefited from his "shamelessly sentimental, melodramatic approach".

Numerous well-known singers were influenced by his music, including Bing Crosby Judy Garland, rock and country entertainer Jerry Lee Lewis, and Bob Dylan, who once referred to him as "somebody whose life I can feel".

Broadway critic Gilbert Seldes compared him to "the Greek God Pan," claiming that Jolson represented "the concentration of our national health and gaiety."……
